Jessica Alba talks erectile dysfunction

Jessica Alba talked about erectile dysfunction live on the American chat show “Live with Regis and Kelly” this week.
The star was musing on her role as an erectile dysfunction drug saleswoman in the new comedy “Little Fockers,” which is a sequel to “Meet the Fockers”. Her character sells an imaginary drug called “Sustengo” that is undoubtedly supposed to represent the fictional equivalent of Viagra.
As Alba was talking about the role one of the presenters Regil Philibin asked her: “Why do you look at me when you ask that question?” The show’s other host Kelly Ripa followed this up by querying: “Does the drug really exist? My ‘friend’ wants to know...”
Philibin is 79 years old and as such falls into the age category when impotence most commonly becomes a problem. Viagra manufacturer Pfizer estimates that around half of men who are aged 40 or above suffer some degree of erectile dysfunction. Amongst the wider male population some estimates have suggested that one in ten men is impotent.
Erection problems have been linked with problems such as depression, low self esteem and relationship break ups for some older men. Causes can be either physical (cardiovascular trouble is a common cause) or psychological.
Little Fockers will be the second film of late to focus on impotence after Love and Other Drugs, starring Jake Gylllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, was recently released. Love and Other Drugs tells the story of James Reidy, who was a real-life Viagra salesman in the late 1990s when the drug was first becoming popular. The movie has been met by a somewhat subdued critical reception.
